I'm looking for input on where you'd like to see this community go. Do you like the weekly "What are your gaming plans for the weekend?" and "What what was your biggest triumph this week in gaming?" posts, or would you like to see something else here?

I'd love to hear you're input, so please speak up!

It would be interesting to see some tournaments set up between members through Xbox Live or PSN or other sorts of online gaming. Maybe make a poll to see what games people would be interested in, rotate them, etc.

I like this idea a lot, there's a lot of xbox live games to choose from.

I usually post updates of my gaming sessions in my journal; I like reading them from other folks, too. Could we link to those?

Maybe every month or so, we could have sort of 'theme' months, where we're encouraged to make posts here about certain aspects of gaming? (Of course we'd post about other stuff, but if it was JRPG month or something, we could try and stir up a big discussion about whether we like them, which tropes intrigue us etc.) Things like different genres, issues pertaining to females in gaming, or maybe just fun, nostalgic stuff like 'The game that changed your life the most'. =D

I like the 'what are you gaming?' and 'what've you achieved?' posts a lot, and I'll try hard to be more active and post some stuff of my own once in a while.

I really like the idea of monthly themes. I'd love to be challenged to step outside my square and try some new stuff every now and then.

I like:

Discussions of new games. I really hate magazines, so groups like this are where I get to hear about them. Console games, casual games. Whether Passage was a game or a work of art, that was a great conversation. How D&D 4th handles alignment. I'd like to discuss card games like Citadels and this weird oil-industry board game I tried and Settlers of Catan. And so on.

Discussions of old games. I'd love to chat about Reach for The Stars and I am always charmed by nostalgia about Dizzy The Egg (but Horace Goes Skiing sucked) or Talisman, or How Well CyberPunk 2020 Predicted Today. I like these discussions even more when they point to places to play the old games. Related: discussions of emulators are good, as are discussions of copyright vs. abandonware.

Console/platform wars and similar. No, seriously, I get a lot of information out of 'Wii vs X-Box' type discussions. Related: how new laptops fare for PC gaming.

Women In Gaming. I wouldn't be in this group if the subject didn't matter to me. I want to hear about female industry leaders, and the games that get it right for women, as well as when the industry gets it wrong. Related: race in gaming. I think it matters. Not all women gamers are white, you know?

Posters' Experiences. Game reviews, but also that time you went to the Game shop and this thing happened, or this person you met and ended up talking games, or the convention you went to.

Gaming Related Literature.

I like kyoutenshi's suggestion of a Theme Month a lot. I think it would work.

Random Waffle. I don't mind off-topic posts - we share a perspective, that of being female and being into games. That leads to a certain perspective on events. I realise this is the most contentious of my list, so I put it last...

Those are some pretty interesting ideas, especially the meta stuff.

Incidentally, do you mean Talisman the board game? I know there was a videogame version (which I've yet to play), but I spent hours and hours of my childhood playing that game and I've never met anyone who's even heard of it.

Thanks! I did mean the board game, yes! Where everyone wants to be the Sorceress and you get turned into a toad if you're not careful, and the various exciting but expensive expansions.

One that hasn't been mentioned yet, highscores!

I don't know what percentage of people actually visit arcades, but if you do, a weekly highscore post would be pretty neat.

Maybe they don't actually have to be in a real life arcade, maybe also in online games, or things like peggle, or Rockband, iidx and such. Anything that's scorebased.
