Mass Effect

Hey there. I'm on my second play through on Mass Effect. My Sheppard is a female, which I suppose is to be expected. If at all possible, I play my characters as women. I was wondering, do those of you who play ME play as male for another perspective, like some men will play through as a woman. Or do you simply play through as women? If so, why?

Personally, I think I'll always play ME as a female. I mean, most games don't offer the option to change the sex of the main character. Thing is with ME, it feels awesome being the hero as a woman. The one person who changes the fate of the galaxy. I kinda love it.

I love ME, and will probably play through a bunch more times. Thanks to the multitude of starter options, I can't imagine this game would ever get boring.

In Dragon Age and Mass Effect games I always play as male once just to see the differences (especially romancing the straight female LIs) but all my other playthroughs are female, and it's my female Shepards I'm most attached to. I've played most of the games at least 3 times so the female PCs definitely predominate.

And yeah, playing as a female hero is great. I specifically love being able to play as a bisexual woman, not something many games let you do! I like being able to play as a POC too, though the appearance options could definitely be more varied.

I think I've always played games that allow me to play a woman. I just don't feel like games that don't have that option have me as a target audience, and I'm a lot less interested in them.

My Sheperd is an Asian woman for the same reasons. I looooooved that I could make her look specifically Vietnamese because when people think Asian, they think "Chinese" and that's just one ethnicity. With this, I could hone her looks to look more like me and it was amazing and empowering to see. You seldom come across a game that takes these things seriously and with such masterful storytelling as well. I loved it :D
