Guild wars 2
Over the weekend was the second beta event for Guild wars 2. So far Arenanet has impressed me greatly with the game. I was never a big Guild wars fan since I was playing wow at the time, but I have to say I am really, really impressed.
Is there anyone else out there looking forwards to Guild Wars 2 as well? If so what are you playing as, or are interested in playing?
I tried out a few classes and so far and the two I really like is the mesmer and the elementalist. To those who have no idea what the crazy person is babbling about, the mesmer uses illusion based magic and can be ranged or melee and the elementalist is ranged that uses elemental magic (fire, water/ice, lighting/air, earth).
What I am most impressed about is the different spells you can unlock depending on the weapon and weapon combos you use. For my mesmer I like the sword and torch combo for melee and the greatsword or scepter/torch for ranged.
For my elementalist, I liked using daggers, but quickly fell in love with using the staff.
I do have to say that the game sometimes got frustrating from time to time when the difficulty of a quest seemed disproportionate to the level. I can freely admit however that I am not used to playing on my own so much anymore as I've been playing mmos with my husband the last three years so my soloing skills have atrophied.
I can't wait for the next beta event, or even another 7 hr stress test!

Wait.. are there also pitchforks in the game? :O

Uhm As far as I could tell it was only for more caster like classes. It illuminated the area small bit when you used it too.

*Yes, I'm nuts.

I can't wait for release. I foresee a loooot of time being spent. (And probably money because seriously only 4 character slots?)

There are obvious rough patches in the game, and in the personal quests that will probably be ironed out.
I feel the same way about the character slots! I had effectively only 3 slots to work with since I had a friend's character put onto my account. I ended up buying an extra slot with the promotion they emailed us.

I feel like a noob cause I didn't realize the asura gates were actually portals until like two hours before the end of the beta. I thought they were unimplemented portals to asura zones! LOL

I love that your skills change based on your weapons too. I wasn't a big fan of the Engineer until I got myself a nice rifle and now she's one of my favourite classes!
Like you I found a lot of the personal quests really difficult, but then the whole thing is a beta so I fed that back to them.
The most annoying thing I found playing was that everyone was expecting the game to be perfect. It's a beta of course there are going to be problems. You're playing to help find those problems and to provide feedback! I blocked so many people who were bitching about bugs!

I know I found my fair share of bugs and broken quests and more than once provided feedback in regards to both. I think the main issue is that the game is so perfcet looking already and it really doesn't feel like it is beta (until you get your but kicked multiple times, especially in personal quests!)

Still I am in total love. I mean all the classes I played were fun, some more so than others. The storylines were great and the combat much improved on GW1! And so much game time and replayability :)
I can't wait!

Also, because the game looks so polished, I can see why people think that there should be no bugs or less problems. I'll be sad to see my beta characters go once launch comes (I haven't focused on one character too much for that reason)

Yeah I've been working out which storylines I want for my characters once they are wiped. Its been nice being able to play around and make sure I'm not too attached, of course I'll end up with one of each class and possibly a couple extra to make sure I play each storyline through anyway :)

During the stress test, I made and played several different charrs just to find out which legion I liked the most.

I seriously hope they drop down the difficulty level some because dying all the time isn't a whole lot of fun. (Although even then I enjoyed it enough that I probably will still be totally addicted.)

Yeah they do need to dial down the difficulty, that's one of the biggest problems I have with GW:EotN. You're already at max level and basically I can't finish the game on easy mode which is pretty demoralising! It's nice to make things harder for the hard core players, but they need to remember the casual gamers too!

And I agree the difficulty for some quests was ridiculous. Like there was a spot that was level 8-10 with mobs all of that level... with either a bugged event or something where there were a bunch of level 15 mobs clustered around the waypoint. 5-7 levels is huge gap that not even the best or the most skilled player could hope to overcome.
I am hoping this was an 'oops' on the beta and not something they plan on implementing at launch.

I HOPE they change the level disparity. I also was annoyed that if I went back to areas that I had done to try to get more levels, I didn't get the "Help this person" quest anymore, just whatever random events popped up, and there were times I went to each area and there were no events. If I could repeat them, it would still be annoying but not anywhere near as bad.

Uh-huh, my husband and one of my gfs were going through EoTN content and could not do a lot of it with just the hired companions, and I didn't have a max level character so... :( There definitely need to be more options for casual players, and players with disabilities that don't have the same reaction time and stuff.

Yeah I think GW really needs to cater to the more casual gamer. My guild and I made it through the EotN storyline but only just!
