Let's just say, I'm not doing the best I could be right now so this might end up turning into incoherent blubbering.
I wanna try talking about Runescape BOTS! :P
Bots are programs players use to automate their character's actions. It's a bannable offense to use them and you can report players if you suspect (LOL) or just outright know they are botting. :) If you google "Runescape" there's at least one bot providing site on the first freakin' page. It's definitely been a problem for Jagex for a long time now hehe. I dunno if you can get free ones on the bot sites or you have to pay for them. I've never botted or been to a bot site so yeah, dunno but I'm guessing you have to pay.
I guess the reasons people bot include:
1. They wanna level up in skills, but don't actually wanna play. Perhaps they think they are awesome if they are high level even if they didn't actually do anything to get there? hehe :) Maybe they like the end game content! (Err... IS there even any end game content in RS?) Maybe they wanna do/create something which has a requirement of a certain level. Hmm... maybe they want whatever rewards you can get at a certain level?
2. They want to make money without actually playing. If they have a program that collects/creates items that they can sell then BAM! There's freeeeeee gold pieces waiting for you in the morning when you wake up! :D Runescape membership is $7.95 a month if you pay 1 month at a time. BUT, there are STILL lots of gold spammers advertising websites on members servers! I suspect those sites also create plenty of accounts with this goal.
3. It's an effective way to increase the size of your online penis (if you have one) which you can whip out and show people resulting in admiration and respect. OR if you're sadistic, to bang on top of n00bs' heads! Not only is that enjoyable, but it creates respect out of fear and awe.
Hmm.. those are the only reasons I can think of why you'd do it. Anyone got anymore to add? :)
I, for one, frown upon botting. At least one person in this community ADMITTED (IN A PUBLIC COMMENT MIND YOU!) that she also looks down on bots. :O I do not have any evidence anyone else cares hehe. :) I dunno, I kinda see it as cheating. I wish it didn't bother me at all hehe. But yeah, sometimes when I arrive somewhere I think to myself, "oh gods... look how MANY of them there are here! D:"
...I've tried to think of this before, and am thinking as hard as I can about it again... just a sec. *rusty gears creaking and grinding with major unstable vibrations*
hehe, I really don't think that at least so far, they've directly impacted my gameplay. Which is why I said I wish I didn't care. In fact, they are kinda useful if you wanna take advantage! And I do take advantage of them at times. :P
Hmm... lemme just list the types of bots I've encountered:
1. Cow killers in the Burthorpe cow pen!
First, don't worry and get enraged at the thought of animal abuse because they respawn in like 20 seconds and seem fine again hehe. This is one of the most popular types I've encountered. Honestly? If I pass that pen by and DON'T see at least one I think to myself, "Weird!" The bots killing the cows are ridiculously obvious for the most part which I find funny and makes me roll my eyes at the same time hehe. Cows are level 2 and Burthorpe is the starting area for members. OMG! I just remembered I took a screenshot of that place once!
here:

I'm really laughing now haha! As you can see the bots are all wearing the same low level gear, and they all fight the same way (stab: controlled xp), they almost always have names like "hglklklklkb" and they never pick anything up. It's just one big cow slaughter to gain melee combat levels. Once in a while, like when I got my bonus mad may xp necklace a few days ago, I've went there to pick up the bones of the cows that end up everywhere hehe. There were three of those bots at the time and I was actually having a hard time keeping up with them because the bones were dropping so fast haha! You get prayer xp for burying bones (HOORAY!)
If new or poor players would actually pick up the bones and the white squares you see which are cowhides, and sold them maybe they wouldn't "need" to beg! >:( Seriously you can go there at almost any time and it takes almost no effort to make a little money that way.
Errr... WOW this is getting even longer than yesterday's post. D: SH*T!!! People that try to read this are going to go blind! D:
Uhm... yeah sorry... at least I cut it. >_>
I'll continue another day. :)
