We got to play last night for the first time in three weeks. My character was resurected, we found a dead halfling prisoner, some coinage, then a wizard, who was going to show us a different way out.
We took on a couple of kobolds, then were attacked by a wraith. Foolishly, we kept going. As we moved into the room where the secret door was, we were attacked by six skeletons, an evil cleric, a wraith, a skeleton and more kobolds.
Nobody considered retreating. The DM asked us how much of this was our responsibility and how much was his to guide us. He wants to give us a balanced campaign, where we work hard for our treasure and character building. As of right now, we're pretty much toast.
So, should we all just fight until the death because we were too dumb to retreat, or should the DM do something to make it easier for us?
