Something similar happened to me a few years ago, I used to be a moderator on a Harry Potter discussion list the owner had always had a 'no slash' rule which was fine because there's more to life than slash, but when JK Rowling said that Dumbledore was gay she deleted the community because she could no longer support the 'corruption of children'. Weird moment.
I don't get on with JRPGs, no idea why. The closest I think I've played to a JRPG in terms of scope are 'Dragon Age' and 'Mass Effect' (both of I love!)
