Does anyone play Harvest Moon games? Or played them before?

I sorta want to try one, but I dunno which ones are the most fun. (and easiest hehe.) I'm not even exactly sure how it works. Is it like Farmville? Where you plant crops and then turn off the game and go back later to harvest?

I was just mentioning breaking the top 100k in the RS hi-scores with my second skill. The two I've passed that mark with are Farming and Construction. And my highest skill is Cooking. So sorta think I would have fun with HM. :)

I've played two - the original snes, which is quite nice in a slow hypnotizing kind of way. You can also cheat and work all night, which means you can get ahead with preparing the ground, chopping wood. It's easy to get into a zen zone.... But I think if you don't like grinding this might not be a gamestyle for you.

Later versions give more choices, like setting up a glasshouse, but your night times are timed, and you can't cheat that way anymore.

I liked the original more, but I also have less time and very different game expectations when i played the laterversions compared to the original.

Oh and you go to bed to start a new day, so crops will grow on a daily basis, you can have live stock, go fishing and find yourself a wife by talking giving gifts to the girls. In the original, the easiest was eve, because you could get flowers for free in the mountain, and see her at night - no time limits, since there are some things you can only do during the day, like buying things.

Ha, yes! It is sort of obligatory PSX game to play!
I played the PSX and DS ones. They are so different!
Well, for a start you could play the PSX one with an emulator to run it from PC. It is easier for me. The same with the DS one, though...
It is very different from Farmville because Farmville is a simulation game while Harverst Moon aims towards RPG game (remember the tagline "A different kind of RPG").
So, here you will not only take care of your field but also maintain relationship with townspeople. You can also get married and have children.

I love Harvest Moon games. I started on It's a Wonderful Life for PS2. I have also played Tree of Tranquility on wii, and Rune Factory on DS. Plus I've watched my sis play tons of others. Each game is a little different, but basically your goal is to run a successful farm and get married.

What platform are you looking at? The DS games, IMO, are the cutest. ToT was fun but the wii graphics are way gross. Esp when we got a new hi-def tv. Also, never buy the wii ware Harvest Moon shop game. It's awful.
