Me thinks if you bought a Slim used and it was scratching discs, odds are the original owner dropped it while the drive was spinning and screwed up the drive head. Then when they figured out it was scratching discs, sold it to you to make a quick buck. Nobody I know with the new S-model 360s have ever had disc scratches and all my discs look pristine. Granted, it could have been a defect, but it's not one I've seen personally.
